『Winnie the Pooh』 has been loved by people around the world for over 100 years. The story, created in 1926 by A.A. Milne based on his days with his son Christopher Robin, grew into a classic of British literature together with the delicate illustrations by E.H. Shepard. It was later passed on into animation by Walt Disney and spread across the world as an “eternal story,” told from parent to child and from one generation to the next.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the original debut of 『Winnie the Pooh』 in 2026, the 『Winnie the Pooh 100th Anniversary Exhibition』 will be held at the Event Square of Matsuya Ginza starting on March 17, 2026.
The exhibition first presents original illustrations in an atmosphere reminiscent of the time when the story was created. The Disney animation section, themed around the Hundred Acre Wood, features immersive spatial displays that bring to life the daily world of Pooh and his friends. Through a wide variety of exhibits including concept art, original drawings, background art, and three-dimensional works, visitors can experience a story that continues to be loved across generations.
Please enjoy this exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of 『Winnie the Pooh』, filled with gentle humor.
What Is Winnie the Pooh
Winnie the Pooh is a story created in 1926 by British author A.A. Milne, inspired by his son Christopher Robin and his cherished stuffed animals. The setting is the Hundred Acre Wood, a place where time flows gently. Pooh, who loves honey, along with Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Rabbit, and other unique friends, share small everyday adventures filled with humor and kindness.
The visual charm of the story was brought to life by illustrator E.H. Shepard. His delicate pen drawings created a classic world that enriched readers’ imaginations and, together with Milne’s writing, established the timeless appeal of Pooh. Through his line work, one can even sense the quiet of the forest and the warmth of the characters—a quality that continues to captivate fans to this day.
From the 1950s onward, Disney breathed new life into the story through animation, spreading Winnie the Pooh across the world and making him a beloved friend to many generations. The warmth of the original work created by Milne and Shepard, combined with the rich storytelling woven by Disney, resonates together to make 『Winnie the Pooh』 a story loved across time.
