This year marks the 100th anniversary of the opening of Matsuya Ginza!
In celebration of this milestone, we will present a variety of special projects to commemorate the occasion. This year’s theme for the "Ginza Handmade Direct Sales" is "Connecting and Being Connected." Under this theme, various forms of craftsmanship will fill the venue.

<Yonezawa Broom Workshop (Brooms)> × <Woodwork Yamani (Pepper Mills)>
“Broom”
The refined lathe skills and sensibilities of Woodwork Yamani have been applied to the handle of the Matsumoto broom from Yonezawa Broom Workshop. Drawing on the easy-to-grip form cultivated through crafting pepper mills, they created a functional and beautiful handle. For this project, the husband-and-wife team at Woodwork Yamani each designed a handle, taking on the challenge of exploring new possibilities. Yonezawa responded to these new designs from young artisans with his own time-honed craftsmanship, resulting in a special piece that combines both functionality and beauty.7 Days Connecting Artisans from Across Japan with Ginza

<Okashika Kosendō / Classic Ko (Maki-e Jewelry)> × <Studio Isado (Woodwork)>
“Small Frame for a Brooch”
Ms. Okashika has long been familiar with the works of Mr. Honda from Studio Isado, often placing brooches from her own workshop into Honda’s frames to enjoy them as interior décor. Inspired by this project, she wished to present customers with a way to appreciate wearable brooches as art, leading to this collaboration. The result is an exciting proposal: not only can you wear your treasured jewelry, but you can also display it in a frame to enjoy as part of your daily surroundings.

<Sosogama (Ceramics / Textile Products)> × <Yuichi Sunahara (Leather)>
“Travel Tea Set”
Mr. Takenouchi, a veteran ceramic artist at Sosogama, is a craftsman who combines masterful technique with a contemporary sensibility. This collaboration has resulted in a monochrome, modern travel tea set. To further enhance the beauty of the set, Mr. Takenouchi teamed up with a leather artisan based in the same Kagoshima region. The case for the matcha bowl is inspired by Japan’s traditional magewappa (bentwood boxes) and features meticulous craftsmanship with leather carefully wrapped and secured. The result is a fresh, modern interpretation of traditional craft. This travel tea set is a superb work that perfectly fuses tradition, modernity, and contrasting materials.

<Yoshiko Nitta (Glass)> × <Shinya Kakiuchi (Glass)>
“Bonded Glass”
This collaboration brings together Shinya Kakiuchi, known for creating sleek, refined glassware, and Yoshiko Nitta, recognized for her beautifully patterned glass. Nitta applied her signature patterns and sandblasting to Amaro glasses and rock glasses crafted by Kakiuchi. The sharp, clean lines of Kakiuchi’s work harmonize with the softness and delicacy of Nitta’s artistry, resulting in one-of-a-kind glasses that present a completely new expression distinct from either artist’s individual work.
