Objects that Enrich Everyday Life

September 17 (Wed) – 30 (Tue), 2025

When the vision of the creator meets the life of the user, what emerges is a warmth and a true sense of richness.
We invite you to discover the many stories behind craftsmanship, and to enjoy encounters with the artisans and the objects that enrich everyday living.

「Kaikado」150th Anniversary Special Events
This year marks both the 150th anniversary of 「Kaikado」’s founding and the 100th anniversary of Matsuya Ginza. To celebrate this milestone, a variety of special events will be held. We invite you to enjoy unique cultural experiences that only 「Kaikado」 can offer.

「Kaikado」150 Years – Preserving Tradition, Embracing Change
September 17 (Wed) – November 3 (Mon, public holiday)
7th Floor Design Gallery 1953

Since its founding in 1875, 「Kaikado」 has continued to craft Japan’s first metal tea caddies using the same methods passed down for generations. Even today, each tea caddy is carefully made in its workshop, retaining nearly the same form as at its origin, quietly accumulating the richness of time. To remain unchanged, yet to evolve — this is the essence of 「Kaikado」, seamlessly weaving tradition into contemporary life. This exhibition reflects on 「Kaikado」’s 150 years of history while also looking toward its future.

「Kaikado」 150th Anniversary Commemorative Products
September 17 (Wed) – 30 (Tue)
7th Floor Design Collection Event Space (closes at 6:00 p.m. on the final day)

To mark this special anniversary, limited-edition items will be available. The commemorative character 「Blik!」 — inspired by tin tea caddies and designed by Keigo Kamide of Kutani ware’s Kamide Choemon Kiln — has a charming look, playfully hiding its face unless the lid is gently held down. In addition to 「Blik!」 goods, visitors will find the limited-engraved “150 Years Tea Caddy,” nostalgic revival tins, anniversary publications, and other exclusive creations filled with gratitude from 150 years of craftsmanship.

「Kaikado Café」 – Limited-Time Pop-Up
September 17 (Wed) – 23 (Tue, public holiday)
7th Floor Special Room (closes at 6:00 p.m. on the final day)

Opened in 2016 in Kyoto’s Kawaramachi-Shichijo district as an extension of [Kaikado]’s spirit of hospitality, 「Kaikado Café」 introduced its own roastery, 「Kaikado Roastery」, in 2023. For this occasion, the café will open temporarily on the 7th floor alongside the exhibition "「Kaikado」150 Years – Preserving Tradition, Embracing Change". Guests can enjoy coffee, tea, and sweets, as well as browse a selection of original goods. We warmly invite you to take a break and experience the essence of 「Kaikado」 during your visit.
