Design Collection

The Design Collection is known as a pioneer in Japan, offering a curated selection of exceptional design goods.

The store was established in 1955 as a joint project between Matsuya and the Japan Design Committee. Renowned designers Naoto Fukasawa, Kaoru Mende and Taku Satoh brought in their expertise to create a beautifully designed interior that complements the carefully curated products.

Items with exceptional design transcend mere functionality; they reflect the stories woven into our daily lives. The ideas and narratives behind these objects hold the power to deeply resonate with us.

Each piece embodies the passion and dedication of the designers. You can almost feel the story unfold as you hold it in your hands. Design objects that seamlessly blend functionality and beauty promise to enrich your life and bring vibrancy to your space.

We invite you to delve into the stories behind these captivating designs. The Design Collection features insightful commentary from the esteemed committee members, enriching your understanding of each piece.

The Design Bookshelf section sells books on design and art, as well as catalogs and books related to exhibitions held in conjunction with the gallery. Matsuya has also played a pivotal role in fostering Scandinavian design within Japan since the inception of the Japan Design Committee.
