The lid is designed not as a perfect circle, but shaped to cover the spouts as well. Rotating the lid while set on the pot creates a gap with the body, allowing you to prevent boiling over or hold back solid contents to drain excess cooking liquid. (Milk pan body and lid are sold separately.)

Sori Yanagi was a leading Japanese industrial designer of the 20th century. His work spanned a wide spectrum, from daily necessities like cutlery and stools to public structures including highway tunnels and pedestrian bridges. Crafted through rigorous prototype modeling, his simple yet usability-focused designs continue to be cherished by many.

【Design Committee Selection Comment】

Does the "naturalness of aesthetic sensibility" in Yanagi's designs stem from growing up in the home of the founder of the Mingei (folk crafts) movement, surrounded daily by the pottery of Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada? Such thoughts arise when visiting the West Hall of the Japan Folk Crafts Museum (former Soetsu Yanagi residence). Yanagi's kitchenware is sized with combinations in mind. The 18cm saucepan, small frying pan, their lids, and the 19cm strainer and bowl nest together, sharing lids seamlessly. There is an inherent naturalness to things designed without waste.
