On October 3, 1962, during the Sigma 7 mission of the Mercury program, astronaut Walter Schirra wore his own personal watch into space. This made the “Speedmaster CK 2998” the first OMEGA watch ever to travel into space. This updated model pays tribute to that pioneering timepiece, modernising the style of the second-generation Speedmaster that journeyed beyond Earth.

The 39.70 mm polished and brushed stainless-steel case is paired with a “flat-link” bracelet featuring OMEGA’s patented comfort-release system. The black aluminum bezel ring includes the legendary tachymeter scale featuring the iconic “Dot over 90 (DON).”

Beneath the new hesalite-style sapphire crystal lies a grey-blue dial coated with CVD to echo the tones of the 1960s CK 2998 watches. In addition to indexes and “Alpha”-shaped hour and minute hands filled with vintage Super-LumiNova, the central baton-style chronograph seconds hand is coated with white lacquer to match the transferred markings. Sub-dials include a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, and a small seconds display at 9 o’clock.

The dial and crown feature vintage OMEGA logos, while the caseback is engraved with the famous Seahorse medallion, along with the inscriptions “THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE” and “OCTOBER 3, 1962.”

Powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861—an advanced evolution of the historic Calibre 321 that accompanied astronauts into space. The watch is presented in a special box together with a leaflet titled “LEGENDARY MOONWATCH.”
